W.H.M.I.S.

Legislation demands that all workers exposed to or working with chemicals in their workplace must be trained in W.H.M.I.S . This course is designed to give all the information required to ensure their safety around chemicals. An in-depth look at both the labeling system and Material safety data sheets and how to garner information from each.

W.H.M.I.S. Refresher

This course is given as a follow-up to the initial training. It is designed to reinforce the habits taught in the previous training and to ensure that all employees are continuing to remain compliant when using, handling and storing chemicals in the workplace.

FIRST AID AND C.P.R.

Legislation requires that all workplaces in Ontario have and maintain persons with valid First Aid. There are several levels of first aid available yet the most common two are

1. Standard First Aid (16 )hours and

2. Emergency First Aid (8) hours

Standard First Aid is appropriate for workers in a remote area such as a construction site in remote areas or mining. This course will not only assist in the critical interventions but the dressing of wounds and ongoing care until you can release the patient to a higher medical authority.

Emergency First Aid is designed for most companies that have either paramedic or fire service assistance available within 4-6 minutes of an injury. Most companies fall under this requirement and choose this option.

C.P.R.

Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation is a requirement for workers working with live electrical or in confined spaces. This portion is included with both the standard and emergency first aid courses.

CONFINED SPACES

Confined spaces are now defined as of September 30 2006 as a space not designed for continuous human occupancy and where fumes or dangerous atmospheres may collect. This training will give the workers all the skills required to protect themselves in a confined space. The training will include gas monitoring and practical inspection techniques.

CONFINED SPACE RESCUE

Once a confined space course has been completed a confined space rescue course is required to ensure that the workers understand the requirements and techniques of a confined space rescue. Emphasis is given to rescue plans, inspection of equipment and rescue types in this course. Both in class and practical exercise is performed during this course.

FORKTRUCK CERTIFICATION

Forktrucks are a staple in many companies and are required for their material handling. Workers are not eligible to handle these vehicles until adequate training has been performed. Our Forktruck Certification is performed both in class and a practical portion on the forktruck that this employee would be working with. A practical check sheet proving proficiency is supplied once the training is complete for each worker.

CRANE TRAINING

Cranes create many accidents every year in Ontario. Whether the cause is lack of inspections, improper use, unsafe acts, or a lack of training all workers must be trained in the safe use of these cranes. This training is both performed in class and a practical portion with the crane. A proficiency report is given to management upon completion

FALL ARREST / FALL PROTECTION

Falls Kill – it’s a fact, yet with the right training and knowledge all workers can protect themselves from this injury. This training course will teach all workers how to protect themselves by way of guarding, travel restraint and finally fall arrest. A practical portion on inspection and donning and doffing the harnesses are included with this course.

TRANSPORTATION OF DANGEROUS GOODS

Plain language legislation is now in place and requires that all workers transporting chemicals be trained in the use of protective measures and reporting procedures. Spill procedures are also covered in this course. Filling out the various paperwork and manifests are also explained in detail.

MACHINE GUARDING

Legislation demands that all workers exposed to or working with chemicals in their workplace must be trained in W.H.M.I.S . This course is designed to give all the information required to ensure their safety around chemicals. An in-depth look at both the labeling system and Material safety data sheets and how to garner information from each.

ACCIDENT INVESTIGATIONS

An Accident Investigation must take place each time an accident in the workplace takes place. Regardless of severity or injury an investigation is a necessary step to determine the root cause. This training is designed to slow down the “blame game” and create a fact finding mission. Participants are taught how to determine the true cause instead o what is perceived as the obvious. Practical scenarios are played out within the training.

DUE DILIGENCE

This course is for any person who performs the function of a supervisor, manager or senior management. This is plain language of the roles, rights and responsibilities of these managers. Emphasis is given to bill C-45 and the offences and penalties in a contradiction to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Also included are a basic knowledge of the act and more importantly how to find and garner information from its pages.

TRAFFIC CONTROL

Traffic Control must be used any time a vehicle or work area is exposed to the hazards created by traffic. This training is created to assist the worker who is expected to set up and create a traffic control plan. Emphasis is given to the reasons for traffic control, the use of Book 7 (MTO). And safe practices on a written traffic control plan.

PROPER LIFTING TECHNIQUES

One of the most common accidents in the workplace has to do with back injuries. This course deals with the techniques and mechanics of a lift, the protective measures to ensure injury does not happen and stretching and strengthening to prevent injuries.

PROPANE HANDLING

Certified through the Ontario Propane Association as an instructor for propane handling. There are several levels of training available for propane handling. Whether your needs are for salamanders and construction heaters or propane filling stations we can supply the appropriate certifications required to accept and use propane.

INDUSTRIAL SPILLS RESPONSE

If your workplace stores and uses quantities of chemicals that could run the risk of spilling or, you are transporting quantities that could pose an environmental risk if spilled this course will facilitate the quick response from all employees. Training includes types of spills, spill containment, cleanup, spill notifications Ministry Of Environment requirements and reporting procedures.

CERTIFICATION (PART TWO) TRAINING

Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario require that all workplaces have at least one person trained as a certified member on the joint health and safety committee. This training takes place in two parts. 1) A basic knowledge of the Act and its Regulations and 2) a series of mini topics relevant to the hazards that are recognized in a hazard assessment. We can complete these topics for your company to complete your certification process.

WORKPLACE AUDITING

Can’t see the forest for the trees? We can help. This course is created to assist the Joint Health and Safety committee and supervisors how to audit and inspect their workplace to recognize what potential hazards may exist. How to correct them or report them to the committee for recommendations.

SELF CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS

Those companies who require a supplied air to perform their work and have decided to use SCBA will require this training. Course emphasizes care, maintenance, use and selection of an SCBA

AIR MONITORING

Included with the confined space course this is designed to teach how to and what we are monitoring for to determine the level of protection required to work in a specific area. Also in this course is how to record the findings and what they mean.

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

Many people when asked will claim to know how a fire extinguisher works and how to operate it yet, when asked to do so it becomes evident that there has never been any training. This course is paramount for all employees who work in the vicinity of an extinguisher and would possibly need to use it in the event of a fire. Training includes selection of extinguishers, types of fires evaluation of fire loads and proper inspection and use of extinguishers.

HEALTH SAFETY AND THE LAW

Committee members are often called upon by employees to have an advanced knowledge of the Act and are called upon to answer questions from other committee members and workers. This course is for those people. It is designed to show workers how to use the Act and get information from its pages and interpret the contents. Loads of practical in this course.

HAND SAFETY

Hands are injured regularly. Therefore this course is created to give the information to the workers on how to protect themselves, forecast injuries and report hazards before injuries occur. Choice of gloves relevant to the hazards is emphasized.

EYE SAFETY

We get one chance with our eyes. We all want to watch our kids score goals and take part in school plays. Therefore this course is designed to give all the information required to protect workers from eye injuries. Selection and level of protection as well as care use and maintenance of eye protection required.

HAND TOOL SAFETY

Hand tools create a hazard that is often missed in all types of industry. Tools must be inspected and maintained as well as used properly to ensure the safety of workers. This course will tackle all of these topics in detail. Some videos in these courses are very graphic to drive the point home.

HEARING CONSERVATION

Ministry of Labour guidelines changed in 2008 fro 90db to 85db exposure for an eight hour day. You would be surprised how little sound this really is. This course will show the different levels and choices of hearing protection. The reasons why and how hearing loss happens.

LOCKOUT / TAGOUT

Lockout/tagout is known as the ability to de-energize a source and confirm that it cannot restart or re-energize. Many workers are injured every year because of improper lockout/tagout. This course will explain the differences and similarities between these two and how to properly build a lockout/tagout program. Types of lockouts and confirmation will be taught as paramount practices. Full and partial lockouts taught for maintenance procedures.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Any company working with or in the immediate vicinity of electrical services needs to understand the hazards associated with this service. This course explains how electricity works as well as the health hazards and risks to a contact with electricity. More importantly how to realize the potentials and what to do in the event of a strike. Also included in the working around services course.

WORKING AROUND SERVICES

Not just the electrical safety when working around services but this course includes working around gas services. This course is for any company digging around these services both underground and in the air. Instruction includes notifications and emergency response information.

TRENCH SAFETY

Trenches pose a risk dependant on how they are managed and the soil type. This course explains the hazards present at the time of the excavation and the potential for the hazards to change as time goes forward. Also discussed are the different types of protections such as shoring, wall cuts and trench boxes. This course also ties in some potential for confined space.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE SAFETY

All types of PPE are covered in this course from footwear, eye protection, hand protection, traffic vests, hearing protection, clothing, head protection and more. Use, care selection and maintenance are discussed in detail. Videos follow-up the information and some are graphic to “hit home” to the workers.

PUNCH PRESS SAFETY

Punch presses cause severe and life altering injuries when not safely worked on. This course will give all the tools to recognize hazards and how to protect from pinch and nip points. Press inspections and maintenance are tackled in detail.

PROFFESIONAL DRIVER IMPROVEMENT COURSE

We all drive. We all believe that we are good drivers. This course will remind us and strengthen our knowledge that we have become complacent to. If your company has drivers either delivery or sales this course is a must from time to time to rebuild the skills that we may have forgotten.

BLOODBORNE PATHOGENS

Some of our jobs may have the potential to risk the worker from a contact with blood borne pathogens. Whether a garbage worker to sewer worker or even a maintenance professional the potential is there. This course will discuss the different potentials the risk factors and the chances of contact to disease through blood borne pathogens. Emphasis given to how to protect the worker by both PPE and inoculations.

CHAINSAW / CUTOFF SAW

The Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario require training for all employees that would be expected to operate a chainsaw or cutoff saw. This training includes safety features of the saws, PPE required, maintenance, sharpening, cutting, starting, proper cutting techniques, felling of limbs and trees, safe zones , safe work procedures, and much more.

GROUNDING AND BONDING

When working in the vicinity of buried electrical lines you may need to be either grounded or bonded to a vehicle that is grounded. This course is designed to teach these techniques to the user and provide that level of protection during the excavation. Emphasis on hazards, reasons for grounding, proper bonding, equipment maintenance, use and care.

CONTRACTOR SAFETY

Contractors and subcontractors are a fact of life in most business operations. Because of this we must be aware of the liabilities that we face if they are not controlled by safe work practices and a good contractor safety agreement. This course is for the management staff that hire, control, work with or oversee a contractor or subcontractor on you job site.
